Richard Schaefer Now President Of Anthem Sports Group

Richard Schaefer will start his third adventure, or maybe one might say fourth. Schaefer famously rose to power during the Golden Boy Promotions glory days as he was one of the lead voices within the company. Schaefer since leaving Golden Boy Promotions has started Ringstar Sports, Schaefer was involved with Probellum, an upstart boxing promotion that seems to no longer be around, and now will be moving on to his new role of president of Anthem Sports Group.

Anthem Sports Group which is based out of Toronto, Canada is looking to enter into the combat sports market, since Schaefer departed from Probellum, the company, he co-founded at the end of 2021, this appears to be a major opportunity for him, and quality acquisition for Anthem Sports Group nabbing someone with so much experience.

“Richard Schaefer is a major force in the combat sports and boxing arena,” said ASG president and CEO Leonard Asper. “As one of the industry’s most respected executives, he leads with integrity and brings an unprecedented wealth of expertise—cultivated from more than two decades working alongside the sport’s biggest brands and most legendary fighters.”

The press release also noted that Scott D’Amore will now serve as the president of IMPACT wrestling as well, as it looks like Anthem is looking to compile a team of veteran leadership to make executive decision. It appears that by bringing in Schaefer, it appears that Anthem Sports Group is looking to make a sizable impact on the boxing landscape in the near future.

Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com further confirmed that Schaefer will still be working with the four-division world champions, Nonito Donaire, and Eimantas Stanionis. As his new role will not hamper his ability in working with these fighters. Stanionis looks to make the first defense of his secondary WBA regular welterweight world title against Vergil Ortiz, on April 29th, televised on DAZN, from the College Park Center, in Arlington, Texas. Whereas Donaire will fight Alexandero Santiago for the vacant WBC bantamweight title, for a fight card that has yet to be announced.

“Together, we will create a global destination which attracts the best talent and delivers the most exciting content across all aspects of combat sports,” emphatically stated Schaefer. “All of our assets under the ASG umbrella will create new and innovative synergies when dealing with distribution platforms, sponsors, venues and fan interaction.”
