Jose Ramirez, the former unified junior welterweight world champion, appears to have a tentative ring return.
Ramirez signed with Golden Boy Promotions in January, and seems to be nearing his debut with his new promoter.
“Jose will get back in the ring in April, and you will find out about [the opponent] in the next couple of weeks,” Mirigian told ProBox TV.
“It is a big one.”
Ramirez last fought in March 2023. He stopped former world champion Richard Commey in the eleventh round.
Since then, he has been looking for a ‘big fight.’ That has yet to manifest, yet. Though he now is with Golden Boy Promotions leaving his longtime promoter, Top Rank, this year.
“Jose signed a very big deal with Golden Boy Promotions. He has a new level of energy and excitement that I haven’t seen since he came out of the Olympics in 2012.”
Ramirez was thought to be a potential Teofimo Lopez opponent for December.
Lopez, though, is now fighting Jahmaine Ortiz on Februray 8.
“We talked to Teofimo in the ring at Vergil Ortiz’s fight. I talked to him for fifteen minutes.
“Him and Jose talked face-to-face for the first time. So I think that was a big step forward in those two facing each other possibly at the end of this year.
“Communication always helps, talking always helps. They had never spoken to each other at any point. A lot got cleared up and it was good.”
