For fans of the lightweight division, it appears we are close to getting an interesting world title contender-type bout between the very popular Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, and undefeated Giovanni Cabrera, who trains at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
The news first reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com, which was also a topic on ThaBoxingVoice, a popular boxing talk show, Giovanni Cabrera posted the following post which is screen shotted above. The post seems to imply that the fight is close to being done.
Another interesting revelation is the #CowboysStadium, implying the fight might end up at that venue. Given Errol Spence Jr.’s celebrity in Texas and relationship with the Dallas Cowboys organization, seeing that hashtag makes one wonder if this fight does land on Cowboys stadium, could it be a part of a major broadcast with Errol Spence Jr., as the the main event?
“A lightweight bout between Isaac Cruz and Giovanni Cabrera is set to take place this summer in the U.S.,” said Mike Coppinger to ESPN. “The fight is expected to take place in May or June.”
Giovanni Cabrera last fought in July of last year defeating Top Rank Inc’s, Gabriel Flores Jr., by way of a ten-round decision, whereas Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz stopped Eduardo Ramirez in two rounds on the Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz PPV, last September.
