On this day...Vitali Klitschko was born

On this day, Vitali Klitschko, who is a Ukrainian politician and former professional boxer was born.

Klitschko currently serves as the mayor of Kyiv in Ukraine and has made many nightly news programs for his involvement in combatting the conflict between his country and Russia. 

Klitschko became actively involved in Ukrainian politics in 2005 as he moonlighted as a politician during his professional boxing career. Klitschko retired from the sport of boxing in 2013 and holds a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) from Kyiv University's Physical Science.

Klitschko was one of the greatest heavyweights of his era, winning multiple world heavyweight championships. He held the WBO heavyweight title from 1999 to 2000, and the WBC  title twice. While his brother, Wladimir Klitschko might be remembered for his historic dominance of the heavyweight division, Vitali, was known for a very exciting fighting style. 

Throughout his career, Klitschko won 15 world heavyweight title fights and made 12 successful defenses. 

 

Vitali Klitschko's successful boxing career and his active involvement in Ukrainian politics have made him a prominent figure to both political science majors as well fight fans as he has contributed to both fields.
