It appears that the alleged Thursday, November 16th card between Shakur Stevenson versus Edwin De Los Santos, which was first reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com, now has a potential star-studded co-main event.
That fight looks to be a WBO super featherweight world title bout between current world champion, Emanuel ‘Vaquero’ Navarrete versus Robson Conceição, per Salvador Rodriguez, who also furthered the bout isn't signed, but is in advanced talks.
Emanuel Navarrete is a three-division world champion, who defeated Liam Wilson earlier this year to pick up a world title in his third weight class. Navarrete recently outpointed Oscar Valdez in a heavily anticipated prizefight at the end of summer. Now Navarrete appears to have his eyes set on yet another world title defense. Navarrete would be looking to make his second-world title defense at super featherweight.
Robson Conceição is a 2016 Olympic gold medalist but has lost in his previous two world title shots to Shakur Stevenson and Oscar Valdez both for the WBO super featherweight title. This wil be Conceição third atempt at fighting for that belt. Since losing to Stevenson, Conceição has fought only once in which he battled Nicolas Polanco to a non-contest. Conceição has been signed with Top Rank Inc. since his professional debut and would be looking to live up to the potential many saw in him as an amateur.
The card which is rumored, not announced, would take place the Thursday prior to the F1 race in Las Vegas, Nevada, and be broadcast on ESPN. Originally it was thought that Shakur Stevenson would face Frank Martin, but that is no longer the case. Rather than figuring out or speculating who is at fault, it is as simple as this - Stevenson appears to be fighting De Los Santos and not Martin, and that is that.
The elephant in the room is quite clear...is Navarrete a possible future opponent for Shakur Stevenson? The fact that they might be featured on the same card could make you ponder if this is a prelude to something we might see in the future. One might wonder.
