Sean Gibbons is one of the closest people to Manny Pacquiao. As the president of MP Promotions, Gibbons is one of the most reliable sources of information when looking to get credible and reliable information about the all-time great fighter, Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao has been rumored to face Conor Benn, a welterweight who has had a VADA drug test failure that canceled his last bout and has left his future unclear. Benn is currently scheduled to fight on June 17th in Louisiana on the undercard of Regis Prograis versus TBA, as Liam Paro had to withdraw from the fight earlier today. If Benn were to fight on that date, it might seem possible he could return in September…which would make him a viable Pacquiao opponent. Benn is the son of Nigel Benn, the famed British fighter.
"Manny is an all-time great and he feels like he still has a lot of fight left in him and he still wants to compete at the highest level,” said Gibbons to Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com in March of this year. “This fight [vs. Conor Benn] was presented to him by [promoter] Eddie Hearn, and he agreed. Ball is in Eddie Hearn's court. Pacquiao ready to go.”
Since that report, things have gone in another direction, but it is still curious to see if a potential Manny Pacquiao versus Conor Benn fight is explored. Pacquiao fought in December in an exhibition bout against DK Yoo, which took place in South Korea and was broadcast via Triller. From the report we gathered through Gibbons wouldn’t go into too much detail, it is clear that Pacquiao is looking to continue these types of exhibition events and try to go for a big world-class bout in September if everything works out.
