Lomachenko Ready For Second Chance At Undisputed

Devin Haney has been the undisputed lightweight world champion for nearly one whole calendar year, but the man, yet he has still been living in the shadow of Vasiliy Lomachenko, the man many consider to be the best lightweight despite losing to Teofimo Lopez in 2020.

When Lomachenko was recently asked about Devin Haney, by veteran boxing personality Elie Seckbach, Lomachenko was rather candid, about the man many believe Lomachenko will face next.

“He’s a top fighter,” said Vasiliy Lomachenko when ESNEWS. “Now, he’s one of the best boxers pound for pound in the world in our weight classes.”

Lomachenko, who is coming off a win over Jamaine Ortiz in October of 2022, did a lot of the work to consolidate the lightweight division, as he won three of the four major world titles before losing to Teofimo Lopez who collected all four world titles. Since that loss, the undisputed throne has played hot potato between Teofimo Lopez, George Kambosos Jnr., and Devin Haney, who beat Kambosos Jnr., twice in 2022.

“I [am preparing] for May, where it is going to be, ‘I don’t know’,” said Lomachenko furthering his dialogue with ESnews. “I’ve prepared for this fight, it is my second chance, and I have prepared very hard.”

When asked how he expects their showdown to play out, Lomachenko smiled broadly before giving a succinct answer.

“Every time you need to put a goal in your life,” stated Lomachenko about vying to become an undisputed world champion of the lightweight division. “If [you don’t] do this - life isn’t interesting, life is not serious. That is why every time you need to put a big goal, and you need to be very focused on your dream.”
