The undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney, will graduate domestic cable and move onto pay-per-view to fight Vasiliy Lomachenko on Saturday, May 20, at MGM Grand Garden in Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The press conference which took place in Las Angeles, California, today, set in motion one of the the marquee bouts of the spring.
Yet, while Haney went to Australia to win the lightweight world titles from George Kambosos Jnr. It was originally Vasiliy Lomachenko who was set to face Kambosos Jnr, until a war in the Ukraine prevented Lomachenko from facing Kambosos Jnr. Now, Lomachenko is ready to further his legacy.
Lomachenko, who was the fastest male fighter to win world titles in three division, for those unaware it took Lomachenko only twelve fights to accomplish this feat. Add to it his two Olympic gold medals, and you are looking at one of the most decorated modern boxers, but now Lomachenko wants to add his list to modern great fighters, who are undisputed.
“You can’t think about your future when there’s a war coming to your house. You just think about life and about your family and about the people around you. You think about how you can live another day. You can’t think about your job. You can’t think about a professional sport,” said Lomachenko sheer honesty. “We never know what will happen. We can prepare for one strategy, but in the ring it can all change. Right now, I don’t know. I just train hard and prepare.”
