Joseph Diaz Jr resigns with Golden Boy Promotions

Joseph Diaz Jr.'s free agency was very short indeed as previously reported on ProBox TV News, Diaz Jr was a free agent after his split-decision loss to Mercito Gesta, but now appears to be back to where he started his career with his first and only professional promoter, Golden Boy Promotions.

Diaz Jr., a 2012 Olympian, became the IBF super featherweight world champion when he defeated Tevin Farmer, on Janurary 20th, 2020. Since that fight, it has been a whole lot of struggles in Diaz Jr.'s career as he is 1-3-1 over the past three years, as Diaz Jr. lost his title on the scales for his first world title defense against Shavkat Rakhimov. Diaz Jr. would defeat Javier Fortuna, but come up short against Devin Haney and William Zepeda. His last loss, a debately one, against Mercito Gesta in which Diaz Jr felt he deserved the nod.

It is unclear what weight class Diaz Jr. will fight at when he returns with the promotion as he fought his last bout at a catchweight near the 140-lbs limit. Diaz Jr., was one of the best U.S. Olympians coming out of the 2012 Olympic class.
