Jorge Linares, who spent most of his career fighting under the Golden Boy Promotions banner was a loud observer on Saturday night. It appeared Linares was not a big fan of the fill-in main eventer, lightweight Floyd Schofield, and would like to face former world champion, Joseph Diaz Jr., next.
Linares took his Twitter account to say the following.
"Congrats to @JosephDiazJr on your victory. @OscarDeLaHoya let’s do JoJo [vs] Linares for September," tweeted Linares. "Meanwhile… I’m Falling asleep watching this @KidAustin11 fight. About to put UFC. [SIC]"
In response to Linares' tweet, Diaz Jr. tweeted the following.
"You know I ain’t back down from no one," tweeted Diaz. "YEa$y @OscarDeLaHoyalet’s run it up."
Diaz Jr.'s has had a hard stretch of fights as after achieving a lifetime goal of becoming a world champion. Diaz Jr., lost his IBF super featherweight world title on the scales a year later when he failed to make weight for his first world title defense against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. Prior to his win, this past Saturday over Jerry Perez, Diaz Jr., was riding a three-fight losing streak as he lost to Devin Haney, William Zepeda, and then lost a close decision to Mercito Gesta. Diaz Jr. has been at or close to the junior welterweight limit in his past two fights, as his weight class is rather ambiguous as of now.
Linares is a former three-division world champion, who is currently on a three-fight losing streak with losses to Devin Haney, Zaur Abdullaev, and Zhora Hamazaryan. Since his last loss to Hamazarayan which occurred, in Russia on December 2022, Linares has been vocally calling out fighters, most notably Rolando Romero. It appears that Linares is angling for a big fight given his name in the sport with Diaz Jr., and Floyd Schofield being his latest targets.
