JoJo Diaz Jr A Free Agent? Golden Boy Says No.

It wasn’t the night that the 2012 U.S. Olympian had hoped for as Joseph Diaz Jr., felt he should’ve been awarded a victory over Mercito Gesta, instead he lost a split decision and his third fight in a row.

Diaz Jr., though afterward talked to Elie Seckbach of ESNews as he confided that he felt confused with the outcome, but relied on a message that this was his last fight under contract with Golden Boy Promotions, as now Diaz is a free agent.

After writing this article, a representative of Golden Boy Promotions reached out to this writer to let us know that Joseph Diaz Jr., is not a free agent and they are confused as to why Diaz publicly stated this. Diaz Jr. fought well in spurts in his fight against Gesta but appears unable to sustain for the full duration of each and every round.

“I thought I was walking him down, landing some good combinations,” said a startled Joseph Diaz Jr., after the fight to EsNews. “Like I said, it is all in God’s hands, at the end of the day I am just going to continue to do what I do.”

As for what is next…Diaz Jr. wants Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, who was recently rumored to be fighting Giovanni Cabrera. Diaz Jr. made his case that he feels he should be next for the man considered a top-5 lightweight in the division.

“[Isaac] Pitbull [Cruz], let’s get it on,” said Diaz Jr to conclude his interview. Man, don’t fight Mercito Gesta fight me, baby, fight me.
