LOS ANGELES — Jermell Charlo said this week that his dream walkout would include smash hit rappers like Jay-Z or Kanye West.
Charlo returns to the ring September 30 for a potentially legacy-defining super-fight against boxing mega star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
That 20,000 seater venue, traditionally home to the NHL side the Golden Knights, has hosted two huge boxing events already this year with Gervonta Davis against Ryan Garcia in April, and Terence Crawford's thumping win over Errol Spence Jr., last month.
Crawford's triumph felt even more iconic as Eminem accompanied him to the ring, while "Lose Yourself" played.
With that in mind, during a media huddle ProBox TV attended Wednesday with other reporters at the Beverly Hilton in LA, Charlo listed his favorite rappers and named the ones he'd love to accompany him to the ring one day.
"I got Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Em, J Cole pretty good, and I like Rick Ross," the 33-year-old said.
When it comes to his own state, Texas, specifically, he shouted out Beyonce. "We be having discussions all day about music," added Charlo. "UGK, Scarface, all those guys are great."
Then, when it came to his dream artists to walk him out, much like Em did for Crawford prior to the Spence showdown, Charlo said: "I would like Jay-Z, or Kanye West, man.
"If someone can get Kanye West on the phone and tell him I want to walk out with him, that would be good. Travis Scott would be dope."
The Canelo vs. Charlo fight will have all of Alvarez's super middleweight world championship belts on the line.
Showtime Sports will air the event on pay-per-view.
