Jermall Charlo isn’t fighting, but he might as well be. Charlo, the current WBC middleweight champion, despite not having fought for nearly two years has masterfully put himself in the headlines all fight week.
Thursday was no exception during a visit to the media room, Jermall Charlo, announced a potential future fight. Charlo stated that two-division world champion, Demetrius Andrade could be next.
When asked by Sean Zittel of FightHype.com, Charlo doubled down and furthered that he isn’t looking for a tune-up fight, but rather to get right back into a fight with a big-name fighter.
“Y’all heard it first,” said Charlo. “[I don’t want a tune-up I want to go] straight into it [with a fight with Andrade].”
As for the reason for Jermall Charlo’s recent absence. Though he has never fully stated what occurred, it is very clear he needed a mental time-out to get his life in order. Charlo addressed this as well, as it appears whatever was troubling him looks to be a thing of the past or close to being in the past as of now.
“I'm doing better way better,” furthered Charlo who has been out of the ring for nearly two years as he cited that he had to mentally heal. “Don’t worry guys, [being vulnerable about my situation] might make you seem soft, but I had to heal myself as men get stronger like I learned. I took some time away, and [it is alright].”
