Jermall Charlo Says He Will Return Soon

It has been a long-time since we last saw the WBC world champion Jermall Charlo as it is nearly approaching two years since his last title defense. Hopefully, that is soon to change as J Santos, the son of Bob Santos posted a video of David Morrell and Jermall Charlo shadowboxing in the ring today.

Though not quite the reassurance of a fight announcement this mixed with his frequent visits with the media over this past big fight weekend, that David Benavidez defeat Caleb Plant - all signs point to the return of Charlo.

“I am coming back soon,“ said Jermall Charlo in a media scrum prior to the David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant fight. “I had to lose a lot of contaminated people, and contaminated things in my life at the moment, it wasn’t right to get in a fight…I took some time to get better.”

The most curious thing is, no clear and obvious name jumps off the page as a fighter whom he’d tangle it up with. One would hope it would be Carlos Adames, who holds a secondary form of Charlo’s WBC middleweight world title, but Adames has been rumored to fight Julian “J-Rock” Williams, though that bout has not been formally announced.

Charlo seemed overwhelmed with gratitude for the media and fans who have stuck by him, as he has seemingly dealt with some tough situations over the past two years that kept him out of the ring.

“I will fight my mandatory, and his mandatory,” said Charlo with a smile when asked who he’d fight next. “Boxing is like one of the hardest sports in the world and I put my life on the line [every time I fight], I might not be able to fight whenever you want me to, but I am always going to fight and give you exactly what I have in my body.”
