In one month’s time, it will be Devin Haney’s turn to be a pay-per-view star, as he makes his debut as a pay-per-view headliner, as Haney looks to defend all four lightweight world titles that he holds making him the undisputed world champion against three-division world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachnenko, on May 20th, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Haney, who is just as smart outside of the ring as he is in it - staged a media event on the fight week of Gervonta Davis versus Ryan Garcia to capitalize on the plethora of media in town for the massive pay-per-view fight. With such a big fight occurring, it was no wonder many wanted Haney’s thoughts on main event on Saturday
“I can’t really say,” said Haney at his media workout on Thursday evening when asked about Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia outcome. “Styles make fights, Ryan is much bigger, but Tank has much more experience and I think [Tank] punches harder.”
Though like a good political, Haney remained neutral when assessing the fight, Haney offered a different take in one regard. Ryan Garcia has stated he’d like to face Devin Haney next, and because of that - Haney made it clear he is cheering for Garcia.
As for the hot-topic of this fight week…the rehydration clause. Haney, who might be the biggest man at 135 lbs, cutting a lot of weight to make the 135-lbs limit, doesn’t see himself fighting in a catchweight bout at this point in his career.
“I’ve said this before, and I will say it again, [I will not do a rehydration clause] with where I am at in my career,” said Haney weighing in on the subject of weight and rehydration which has become a major talking point for this upcoming bout on Saturday night between Davis vs. Garcia. “Right now I am the champion, the guy with all the hardware. So it’ll be no point for me to do a rehydration clause especially with me being a champion, and everyone knows how hard it is for [me] to make [the lightweight limit]."
