Goossen: Ryan Garcia Might Be The Best I Ever Trained

When you think of Joe Goossen, you will often think of great fighters. Famously the trainer of Diego “Chico” Corrales, Goossen also has worked with Sergey Lipinets, Malik Scott, Amir Khan, Michael Nunn, Shane Mosley, as well as John Molina Jr. Being a boxing fan, many of our memories at the highest level of the sport have been with Joe Goossen cornering a fighter.

Goossen, who is entrusted by Garcia and his team to prepare the prizefighter for his big fight against Gervonta Davis on April 22nd, live on Showtime pay-per-view, from the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, is singing the praises of Garcia. Goossen, who has had a lot of top fighters in his day - feels that Garcia might end his career as the best fighter Goossen ever worked with.

The undefeated Garcia, who has been in one major fight in his career of twenty-three fight career, which was against Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell, a fight Garcia won by technical knockout. Garcia now looks to see his star grow if he were to beat Gervonta Davis, as he his massive social media following has always been question in comparison to his achievements in the ring.

“He looks like a star,” said Goossen, who is always dressed well in the corner often wearing designer clothes to the ring while cornering his fighter. “[Garcia] carries himself like a star. I just think Ryan is one of the top three of my all-time favorite fighters ever. But I think after this fight on the 22nd he’ll occupy the number-one spot.”

Goossen known for his action-orientated style, that has immortalized many fighters in the sport of boxing, especially Corrales, who will never be forgotten due to the tutelage of Goossen, is looking for another memorable night.

“What can fans expect? They can expect the unexpected. Ryan is one of the best out there. Tank is one of the best out there. This is what makes great fights – the unknown. And people are on one side or the other. They both have great qualities. We’ve really trained to do one thing and that’s to win this fight. We’re not going to go to Las Vegas with any other thought in our head than to win the fight and I’m sure the other side has the same ideas.”
