Golden Boy Promotions Files Lawsuit Against Ryan Garcia, Lupe Valencia Over Garcia's Contract

Friday afternoon, Keith Idec of BoxingScene.com, dropped an interesting tidbit as it appears Golden Boy Promotions, which is run by Oscar De La Hoya, has now filed a lawsuit against Ryan Garcia, a fighter who they promote and his attorney, and advisor, Lupe Valencia, on Friday. The document was filed in the United States District Court of Nevada which is seeking to further enforce a “valid promotional agreement” with Ryan Garcia.

This comes on the heels of Garcia's being knocked out by Gervonta "Tank" Davis in April, only for Eric Gomez to be the only member of Golden Boy Promotions to attend the post-fight press conference. As Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya, and Joe Goossen, Ryan Garcia's trainer for that fighter were not at that event. Since the loss, Garcia has now changed trainers and is working with Derrick James, who trains Errol Spence Jr., Jermell Charlo, Anthony Joshua, and Frank Martin.

According to a report from Idec, the 10-page document claims Valencia has interfered with Ryan Garcia''s ability to communicate with his promoter and negotiate deals.

This is a developing story.
