Most people watching Saturday night’s fight card probably didn’t see heavyweight Frank Sanchez’s KO of Daniel Martz in one round. Even fewer saw Chris Arreola return to the ring and stop Mathew McKinney in two rounds.
Now, ESPN.com's Mike Coppinger has reported that the two might just be on a collision course for each other. The news honestly is fairly disappointing as Frank Sanchez is one of the best heavyweights in the world, but has never gotten an opportunity to show how he operates at the highest level. Arreola, a 42-year-old veteran, is well-past his best days as a fighter.
Sanchez returned against an unheralded opponent for one reason alone it seems - to stay active. Now one could argue that this fight would be a higher-level bout that serves a similar purpose for Sanchez. The big question now becomes when will Frank Sanchez get his shot at the best fighters in the division
“Sanchez is reunited with Eddy Reynoso,” explained Mike Coppinger in more detail via his tweet. “[Sanchez] wanted to stay active on Saturday.”
The later part is also interesting that Sanchez, who left Eddy Reynoso’s gym at some point after Canelo’s record-setting 2021 is now back with Reynoso.
