De La Hoya gives update on Ryan Garcia's return to ring

We have more news on Ryan Garcia, as according to his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, the CEO of Golden Promotions, Garcia should be set to make his return to the ring on DAZN, on November 18th. This also aligns with Golden Boy Promotions President, Eric Gomez, who told ProBox TV News similar news of a mid-November return for Garcia.

This return follows Garcia's first career loss which was on pay-per-view to Gervonta Davis earlier this year, in a record-setting fight. Despite facing a setback in that particular match, Oscar De La Hoya was upcoming a forth-coming bout for October in Golden Boy Promotions headquarters in downtown Los Angeles and spoke to the media about the future of Ryan Garcia and when he might return.

"We are gunning for, I believe November 18th, live on DAZN," said Oscar De La Hoya to a group of reporters in a media scrum on Tuesday for a press event for Alexis Rocha versus Giovani Santillan. "Hopefully, it will be in L.A., but we don't know yet."

An internet rumor has circulated that the fight could land in New York City, whereas Jake Donovan reported that the fight could land in Arizona or Texas. As for opponents, Dan Rafael hinted at Pedro Campa, a fighter who fought Teofimo Lopez last year, as an option, whereas Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar Duarte has been a name that is getting some traction though no one with knowledge close to the situation was willing to comment at this time about the opponent for Garcia.

The interesting fact is that the fight might end up away from the L.A. market which is the hub for Golden Boy Promotions, and Garcia was located out of L.A. for most of his career and has now relocated to Dallas, Texas to work with his new coach, Derrick James. De La Hoya in this same interview refused to give information on where the fight will happen.

"We are currently now working on a venue [for Ryan Garcia's next fight]," said Oscar De La Hoya to a group of reporters in a media scrum on Tuesday for a press event for Alexis Rocha versus Giovanni Santillan. "California taxes are just killing us. It just all depends on the opponent, it depends on what Ryan wants, we will be talking to him shortly."

An interesting subplot is the network of the fight, DAZN, has a fight on the calendar already as Diego Pacheco will headline his first card at home in L.A. on the same night Garcia fights. as he faces Marcelo Coceres, which will take place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California. This might not seem like much to most, but this would pit two of the network's biggest potential stars on at roughly the same time if Garcia does return on November 18th.

De La Hoya explained how he looks at this situation.

"DAZN has been doing a lot of double-programming," said De La Hoya. "Fights during the day and then the main fight at night...I am pretty sure DAZN's plan is that the fans get a lot of boxing on that night."
