Terence Crawford wants Canelo Alvarez fight

Welterweight three-belt champion Terence Crawford wants the big fights.

One name that seems to be of interest to him is Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Today, Crawford was a guest of honor at the ceremonial weigh-in. As David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade made weight, Crawford stood on stage. Afterward, Crawford spoke about his future. The future he sees for himself is 'big fights.' With the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez being his top choice. Crawford is the only male boxer to become a two-division undisputed champion. Fighting Canelo would be three weight classes above his current weight. Yet, it would allow him to attempt to become a three-division undisputed champion.

“Man, that would be lovely. That would definitely be lovely [to land a fight with Canelo Alvarez],” said Crawford in a media scrum.

“I’m looking for mega-fights right now, and right now [a fight with Jaron 'Boots' Ennis] that’s not a mega-fight. That’s my standpoint on it. I’m looking to fight guys like Canelo. That’s pretty much it, man, and a rematch with Spence, and that’s it."

Earlier this month, Crawford lost his IBF welterweight world title. The IBF awarded the belt to the interim champion, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis when no progress occurred. Ennis was the mandated opponent for Crawford. A rematch clause between Crawford and Errol Spence Jr from their July fight exists. Until the rematch clause is taken care of Crawford will be inactive. The IBF took their belt into their own hands awarding Ennis the belt. Now Crawford is no longer an undisputed champion in the welterweight division. Yet, Crawford seems uninterested in a future Ennis fight.

“Listen, like I said. Jaron [Boots Ennis] is in one place, and I’m in another. “I’m looking for mega-fights right now, and right now, that’s not a mega-fight. That’s my standpoint on it. I’m looking to fight guys like Canelo. That’s pretty much it, man, and a rematch with Spence, and that’s it. That’s over with for me,” said Crawford."
