Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo announced for September 30th

Canelo Álvarez, according to his Instagram account has announced his next fight and opponent, and it isn’t who all thought. It appears that Canelo Álvarez will return to the ring on September 30th, against Jermell Charlo, not Jermall Charlo, which was originally speculated.

Jermell Charlo as previously reported this week was thought to be in the final stages of agreeing to a fight with WBO junior middleweight secondary champion, Tim Tszyu for October. Now it appears that isn't the case - as both Canelo and Jermell Charlo have posted the fight poster to their page.

When looking at Canelo’s post it reads as follows.

“UNDISPUTED VS. UNDISPUTED,” states Canelo on IG following it up with the date of September 30th and a location of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Charlo is the current junior middleweight undisputed champion fighting at 154 lbs, and Canelo Álvarez originally fought at that weight but has since become the undisputed world champion at super middleweight, and a four-division world champion. Charlo would be moving up two weight classes to face Canelo Álvarez in a battle of undisputed champions.

The bout will be put together by Premier Boxing Champions, with no set network affiliation at this time, but it would seem Showtime would be the logical distributor of the fight. This would be Canelo’s first fight since his DAZN deal elapsed and would be Jermell Charlo’s first fight in 2023.
