Boots Ennis Ready To Main Event, Wants All The Big Names

Undefeated welterweight contender Jaron “Boots” Ennis only fought once in 2022. One would have hoped that with a win on January 7th against Karen Chukhadzhian, that Ennis would return to the ring - yet that hasn’t happened.

Though his last fight set in motion what seemed to be an IBF eliminator between himself and Roiman Villa, the 25-year-old, fighting pride of Philly, is tired of being the co-feature and wants to get his own card.

Ennis, who is trained by his father “Bozy” Ennis, the longest of his father’s three sons, all of which boxed professional - now looks to leave a last legacy on the sport, one of which being stealing the show and being a marquee attraction. The welterweight division has been void of activity as Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr., and Yordenis Ugas are all approaching a year outside of the ring, and Terence Crawford fought in December against David Avanesyan but was out of the ring for a year prior to that. The young man, Ennis is turning into a veteran without the ring time or the fights.

“I want to go to the next level,” stated a somewhat frustrated Ennis. “I don’t want to go backward. I want to go forward.”

Ennis last fought as the co-feature on the Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia pay-per-view undercard, in front of a packed crowd. Now Ennis appears to want to go to the next level and be a main event fighter.

“You know there are a few [fighters] that [in the running to fight Boots Ennis],” said his father Bozy Ennis to Hardcore Boxing News. “[Roiman] Villa, [Keith] Thurman, was [Yordenis] Ugas, but he is going to fight [Mario] Barrios. If Ugas wanted to fight us, why is [he fighting Mario Barrios]? We wanted you! [We want] all the top guys.”
