Artur Beterbiev credits his 19 wins to 'luck'

Artur Beterbiev, the unified world champion holds three of the four major world titles in the light heavyweight division, which is the  WBC, WBO, and IBF belts is known for his stoic and modest nature.

Heading into his upcoming bout against Callum Smith, on August 19th at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, broadcast by ESPN with the lead promoter, being Beterbiev’s, which is Top Rank Inc. Beterbiev simply credits one thing with success - ‘luck’.

“It’s nothing but luck,” Beterbiev said to Le Journal de Montreal. “These 19 fights were all by luck. I win thanks to luck and I hope that this luck is going to keep going.”

Though the undertone seems to be a bit of confidence and downplaying his power as well as sarcasm. Beterbiev has stopped all 19 of his opponents en route to being undefeated to this point in his career. His dominance has found him on the pound-for-pound list. As the fighter trained by Marc Ramsay is not a motormouth when it comes to words.

“I think that he’s just being a bit sarcastic,” said Ramsay to the same outlet mentioned above. “Recently, in the gym, a young boy asked him a few questions about his talent and he responded, ‘Stop looking at my talent and look at how hard I’m training.’”

It is clear Beterbiev views his talent as redirecting the focus to his dedication and rigorous training, as it might appear that Beterbiev doesn’t believe talent is real.

Yet, despite Beterbiev being a heavily anticipated bout against the former super middleweight champion, Callum Smith. The fight most people want to see is the undisputed clash against WBA light heavyweight world champion, Dmitry Bivol. Many hurdles have been put forth including the WBC not sanctioning bouts involving Bivol. Yet, with every passing week, fans hope to see the two Russian fighters face each other at some point in the future.
