Team Berlanga say they're still in discussions for a fight against Munguia

Conversations are ongoing regarding a fight between Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia, Boxing Scene reported Thursday.

The midweek development counters a comment from Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar de la Hoya, Munguia's promoter, that Berlanga's representatives rejected the fight as they did not think the fighter was ready.

Berlanga, though, said he'd welcome the bout and is meeting with Matchroom in the coming days to talk about a deal that would see the two promotional companies work together for one of the biggest bouts that DAZN could broadcast.

“Oscar De La Hoya came out and said I turned down the Munguia fight,” said Berlanga, “I’m still in discussions with my promoter and actually we're set to meet up in Florida soon to go over all the financials to see if we can make it happen.

"I wanna sit down with Eddie and with my team in person and figure out what our side is getting, and what the Golden Boy side is getting, for this fight.

"It's hard to make a decision until I know all the details, so anybody saying that the fight isn’t happening because of me at this point doesn’t know what they’re talking about."

Both Berlanga and Munguia are at similar places in their respective careers as they are both 26 years old, long past being considered prospects, yet have very few notable wins on their resumes.

Victory over one another would define their careers to this point, particularly if they can do so by knockout.

“Like any fighter going into a huge fight, you need to know all the details and the business side of things before you commit to saying yes or no,” said Berlanga.

“Discussions are still going on. I’m meeting with my promoter and my team soon to discuss the full offer, so I know all the details."
