Arnold Barboza Jr signs with Golden Boy Promotions

Arnold Barboza Jr has signed with Golden Boy Promotions.

Barboza Jr, who has long been heralded as one of the best junior welterweight not to get a world title shot, now has a new promoter to help him achieve this goal.

The 31-year-old fighter from South El Monte, California, with an undefeated record of twenty-eight wins, ten of which come by way of knockout will make his debut with Golden Boy Promotions as part of the DAZN broadcast of a card headlined by Ryan Garcia facing Oscar Duarte card in Houston, Texas at Toyota Center on Saturday, December 2. This will also be Barboza Jr.'s first fight since leaving his long-time promoter, Top Ran Inc., after parting ways with the promoter after numerous failed attempts to land fights with Teofimo Lopez

"I'm ready for the big fights,” said Arnold Barboza Jr. “ I'm ready for the big events, I'm ready to fight in LA where I was born and raised. I feel that Golden Boy and Oscar will deliver this for me and they stepped up and gave me what I asked for."

“The mold of a Golden Boy fighter is talent and hunger to become a world champion, which are all the qualities that Arnold Barboza Jr. possesses,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “We will position him to fight for a World Title Belt in the very near future. We’re the best in the business at building the next generation of stars and Arnold Barboza Jr. will put the 140-pound division on notice.”

"Value is not determined by those who set the price, value is determined by those who choose to pay it,” said Rick Mirigian, Manager of Barboza Jr. “Golden Boy has placed a high value on Barboza and wasted no time to show it."

Barboza Jr has fought who he has been asked to fight in his era but has yet to come away with his career-defining title fight as he has recently defeated Jose Pedraza, Danielito Zorrilla, and Alex Saucedo, as well as Antonio Moran. Barboza Jr is currently the number-one contender for the WBO junior welterweight title, a title held by Teofimo Lopez, as well as number four in the WBC rankings and number thirteen in the IBF rankings. One thing that comes to mind with this signing is that Barboza Jr. could be in line to fight Ryan Garcia as well as 'Kid Austin' Floyd Schofield, two young guns signed to Golden Boy Promotions, who will need a stern test in the coming years.
