The southpaw had been on a nice run, winning seven straight after taking an L in 2018 to Farkhad Sharipov. Fernandez then met 9-15 Gonzalo Carlos Dallera on Feb. 19, 2022. He got caught cold in round one and now wants to show ‘Last Chance’ watchers that TKO1 loss was a fluke. “I went down and the referee stopped it immediately,” Fernandez says. “I definitely could have kept fighting…I showed him I was fine, did push ups and everything but he just called it.”
His resume doesn’t contain boldface names, it’s true. Fernandez has nice length, he’s 6’’ but that height can be used against him, when he stands upright and offers a large target. His hand and foot speed aren’t A plus grade, so those could be impediments to tournament success. He’s thinking positively, though. “My prediction is I'm going to win all three fights and become a world champion. I train three times a day while holding down a full-time job. No one is willing to work harder than I do every single day and that will show!”
