Wilder vs. Joshua Can Happen? Shelly Finkel Thinks So

Good news fight fans, Shelly Finkel, the manager of Deontay Wilder is open to the idea of Wilder facing Joshua in the future.

"If [Joshua] needs to take a break and take a fight as a comeback fight or if he feels the real redemption is with Deontay, we're open to it … I'm not closed to it. I would never just walk away from it," Finkel told The Sun. "[Joshua] was gutsy to go right back into the fight when he clearly lost the first one. But it really depends mentally on what Joshua feels he needs.”

The mega-fight between two massive superstars in the heavyweight division, which was rumored to be in strong talks in March of 2019, now seems closer than ever, with both fighters coming off multiple losses in succession. With Wilder getting knocked out by Fury twice, and Joshua getting outboxed by Usyk, twice, and having a temper tantrum in the ring after the second loss.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, and the head of Matchroom Boxing has been keen on the idea of a fight between Joshua and Wilder, and has floated out the idea of this bout, after Joshua lost for the second time to Usyk.

It is clear both fighters want the fight, but Wilder has to handle business on October 15th, on pay-per-view, before further talks continue as he is contractural obligated to his upcoming bout.

"Right now, we have one fight on our mind, and nothing else, which is Helenius,” said Finkel. "Because, if he doesn't do what he's supposed to do with Helenius, the rest doesn't matter."
