Tyson Fury Claims Joshua Fight Is Off Following Missed Deadline

WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has claimed that any potential fight with rival Anthony Joshua is now off the table. The statement comes following a missed self-imposed deadline by the “Gypsy King” for Joshua to sign for the fight after terms were initially agreed verbally and a contract being sent from Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, over to 258 Management and Matchroom Boxing on the 16th of September. This past weekend, Eddie Hearn wof which his matchroom boxing outfit promotes Joshua stated that “the contract was a mess, all over the place and needs to rearranged into a format which looks acceptable”. Hearn conceded that he did feel that Fury would “force us (Matchroom, Joshua & 258 Mgmt) to run out of time” with a self imposed deadline to sign terms, which now seems to be the case on reflection.

Fury took to Instagram to state his intentions that he is moving on at the time of writing.

"It's official. D Day has come and gone. It's gone past 5pm Monday, no contract has been signed. It's officially over for Joshua. He's now out in the cold with the wolfpack. Forget about it. Idiot. Coward!"

"I always knew you didn't have the minerals to fight the Gypsy King. Good luck with your career, and your life."

However this comes following a statement from Anthony Joshua stating that he intends to sign terms of the fight but stated that the contract is in the hands of his lawyers to ensure legal terms are protected.

"It's not in my hands, it's with the legal team. That's why you hire lawyers. You know the history of boxing, make sure you get your legal terms right.

"Of course, I'm going to sign a contract. It's just with some lawyers at the minute."
