Canelo Open To Heavyweight Clash With Usyk

Canelo Alvarez is open to a bout at heavyweight, even if it involves facing one of the most feared fighters at that division Oleksandr Usyk.

“It’s difficult, but I don’t care,” Alvarez answered a Fighthype reporter when Oleksandr Usyk was brought up to him as a potential opponent. “I like that kind of challenge.”

Usyk, an undefeated Olympic gold medalist was a unified world champion at cruiserweight and now holds the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world titles at heavyweight with the only belt at heavyweight that doesn’t belong to Usyk is in the firm grips of Tyson Fury.

Alvarez, who is deep into preparation of his camp for his fight with Gennadiy Golovkin, a trilogy roughly four years in the making, is not shying away from a challenge, though an astute observer might ask a simple question….why?

Alvarez just lost to Dmitry Bivol, a light heavyweight, who is roughly forty pounds smaller than Oleksandr Usyk.

It is fun to speculate as a fight fan, but it is also important to remember the task at hand as Canelo Alvarez has pay-per-view fight on DAZN, September 17th, live from the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he must first get by by Golovkin before any of these fights can get made.
